Although we have quite a few monitoring activites running in Santa Lucía, most of them are carried out and dedicated to diurnal creatures.
But this of course only reflects half of the truth about nature here.
Fortunately there are some people who have a strong passion for nocturnal adventures. Over the last years some researchers (namely Fiona Mathews from the University of Sussex and Morgan Hughes, University of Wolverhampton) have done quite a bit of work exploring the bat variety in Santa Lucía. Behind rodents bats are the second largest of the mammalian orders, but not a lot is known about their diversity and their role in the environment. Hopefully we will find out a bit more about this in Santa Lucía in the next years.
